About the Organisation

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) provides a range of services over an area that spans 185,000 sq km (80% the size of Victoria) that covers the region east and southeast of Katherine, Northern Territory. The total estimated resident population of the region is 6,919.

About the Katherine Region

About the Opportunity

Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Compliance Coordinator to support the Governance, Corporate Planning & Compliance Unit, based in Katherine, NT.

Reporting to the Manager Governance and Corporate Planning, your main objective will be to assist Council to meet its corporate governance responsibilities. This will be achieved by:

  • Conducting investigations and audits;
  • Ensuring Council and its activities are compliant with all external and internal obligations;
  • Documenting and communicating compliance performance;
  • Undertaking research and policy development within the context of the Unit; and
  • Providing staff with support to enhance their ability to meet compliance requirements

A key component of your role will be to conduct, audit and review, a range of the Council’s operational matters including, but not limited to:

  • Applicable legislative and case law requirements of the Territory and Commonwealth;
  • Business and strategic plans;
  • Other internal plans; and
  • Grant funding agreements, associated obligations and financial processes.

About You

The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications (minimum diploma level) in Law, Investigations, Regulatory Compliance, Audit, Governance or similar and knowledge of corporate and governance practices relevant to Local Government. 

Previous experience in a law enforcement, investigations, or compliance position within a Government setting will be highly regarded.

You will have the ability to carry out investigations and resolve complex problems, including the ability to interpret and apply law and policy, and a commitment to professional and personal integrity and concern for public interest.

Importantly, you’ll have an understanding and genuine interest in Indigenous culture, with the ability to liaise with Indigenous community members in a culturally sensitive manner. Previous experience working in a similar position within the Local Government sector, or within a cross cultural environment will be highly regarded.

  • Hold a current Northern Territory 'C' class manual driver's licence and confidently drive manual 4x4 vehicles on unsealed roads;
